$1 Trillion Dollar Goal
Yo! My Twitter feed has been a total mess lately, filled with random stuff I couldn’t care less about. I wonder why? 🇺🇸🗳️
Anyway, I’ve started the great migration over to Bluesky 🦋. If any of you are there too, give me a follow! ✌️
Meanwhile, the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference-COP 29-kicks off Monday in Azerbaijan, and one major aim is to secure a whopping $1 Trillion 💰 in climate finance. That’s “Trillion” with a T! 💸
For context, climate finance is the support provided by wealthier nations to help developing countries fund projects that reduce pollution, protect natural resources, and adapt to climate change impacts. The idea is to tackle challenges together—because it’s a big ask for poorer countries to handle solo.
- Sure, $1T sounds enormous, but keep in mind, it’s pocket change next to the $2.8 billion per day profit that the oil & gas industry has raked in over the last 50 years! 😵💫
- One of the proposed methods to meet this goal? A wealth tax on the ultra-wealthy. It could work wonders for climate finance and affect only a few… 🙈
- The cost of inaction is steep: climate damages are projected to hit $38 trillion per year by 2050 🔥—not to mention the toll on human lives ☠️
For a visual dive, check out the Global Landscape of Climate Finance 2024 report from the Climate Policy Initiative. It’s full of cool charts 📈✨ and reveals that while climate finance is growing each year, we need 3x the current growth rate to hit the target ☹️
In other news, ChatGPT Search launched last week, and it’s a game-changer! Plus, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman just bought the domain— chat.com from HubSpot co-founder Dharmesh for a cool $15.5 million+. 🤑 (Reminds me of that wealth tax… 🙏)
